Arrival:
School begins at 8:00.
School begins at 8:00.
We encourage families to walk to school, but if you drive...
CAR DROP-OFFS: Please use the Pierce Street traffic circle near the Pierce Historical building. Students should not be picked up or dropped off by the staff parking garage. Students should exit on the right side of the vehicle on the curbside (do not drop off students in the left hand lane). Parking is ONLY allowed in a metered spot. For safety reasons, there is NO parking in the circle drive as this is an active bus lane - drivers must remain in the vehicle at all times. Please respect this important safety policy. Always use extra caution when traveling through the bus circle during high traffic hours.
DISMISSAL PROCEDURES: Students are dismissed at 2:30 Mon.-Thurs. and 1:40 Fri. unless they are involved in a supervised activity. Last year we dismissed the children outside at the arrival spot, but if things change I will let you know.
EARLY DISMISSAL DAYS: There are 8 early dismissal days (12:40 p.m.) for parent/teacher conferences and/or professional development (see the Brookline School Calendar here). The day before the Thanksgiving break and the day before December break all students are dismissed at 12 NOON. Additionally, every Friday is a 1:40 dismissal.
ABSENCES: To report any absence or tardy, please call the attendance line at 617-730-2572 and leave a message. Our system will automatically contact families after 9:00 a.m. to report your child’s absence. Please disregard this automated message if you have ALREADY contacted the school. Contact the Pierce School Office at 617-730-4885 for questions or concerns related to your child’s attendance.
TARDIES: Students who are tardy need to sign in using the kiosk in front of the main office.
LEAVING EARLY: Students who need to leave school prior to dismissal must have a note from a parent or guardian.

Meet our nurses:
FROM THE NURSES OFFICE:
PHYSICAL EXAMS: All students entering Pierce for the first time, and those in Grades 4 and 7, are required to submit an updated Physical Examination dated within a year of the start of the 2021-22 school year. You, or your child’s Primary Care Physician, can scan/email/fax, or send in to the clinic. (See below for contact information). If your child is in 5th through 8th grade, and they have had a recent Physical which includes Postural Screening for Scoliosis, you may send in their Physical as well. The Scoliosis screening results must be recorded on the physical. Your child’s doctor may also write a brief note stating that your child has been screened, and what the result of the screening is. If you choose either of these options, please ALSO send in a note from you, the parent/guardian, requesting that your child not participate in the school Scoliosis screening.
IMMUNIZATIONS: All students in grades K-8 are required to be in compliance with Massachusetts Immunization regulations in order to begin school in September. This includes 3 doses of Hepatitis B, 2 doses of MMR, 2 doses of Varicella, 5 Dtap, and the last Polio booster given on or after the 4th birthday. To enter 7th grade - ALL SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS MUST HAVE their REQUIRED TDAP BOOSTER. If your student has a Medical or Religious exemption, please stop in the Clinic. The State of Massachusetts requires that parents/guardians submit a signed exemption annually.
MEDICATIONS: If your student will be taking a prescribed daily medication at school, other prescribed medication “as needed,” require an Epipen, or use of an inhaler, please bring in new orders and Action Plans from the doctor, AND complete a Parent Medication Administration form. All medications must be in a current prescription labeled container. Inhalers and Epipens should be in the original box with the Prescription label affixed. Please keep track of expiration dates, and when medications need to be refilled.
Over-the-counter medications OTHER than the standard (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, Benadryl, hydrocortisone cream, and cough drops) must have a Doctor’s note stating the reason for giving, and have a Parent Medication Administration form filled out and submitted. Most non-prescription medications can be given at home, before or after school. You can authorize administration of these over the counter medications on the green health card.
OTHER MEDICAL: Please contact the Nurses if your child has any other HEALTH CONCERNS so that a plan of care can be put into place. For students with a diagnosis of Asthma; Allergy requiring an Epipen; Diabetes; Seizure Alert, or other Medical condition, please submit the appropriate Care Plan/Asthma Action Plan/Emergency Action Plan, or Medical Orders/update, from your doctor.
Brookline Health Services FORMS and CARE PLANS can be located here. Hard copies are available in the Clinic. Any questions, or to make an appointment, please contact us:
